Dunechasers

Enigmatic desert nomads

Info

Stats

  • Age: Dunechasers live short lives; they are considered adults at a mere 7 years of age, and live around 35 years
  • Size: though standing only around 4ft tall, their quadrupedal body plan means judging size based on height alone is misleading. Your size is medium.
  • Speed: your speed is 40ft
  • Ability score increases: your constitution score increases by 2, and your wisdom score increases by 1.
  • Steady feet: you have advantage on saving throws to avoid being knocked prone or restrained. In addition, standing up only costs you 10ft of movement.
  • Natural armor: your body is covered in tough carapace. When you aren't wearing armor, your base AC is 13 + your dexterity modifier. You can use your natural armor to determine your AC if the armor you wear would leave you with a lower AC. A shield's benefits apply as normal while you use your natural armor
  • Sun worshipper: you can cast the Solar Vestige spell once with this trait and regain the ability to do so once you finish a long rest. Wisdom is your spellcasting ability for this feature.
  • Languages: you know Common and stridula, the clicking and shrill native tongue of the dunechasers. Due to your insectoid mouthparts, the only language you can speak is stridula, but you can still understand, read, and write in any other language you know.
Solar Vestige

Level 1 Illusion spell

  • Casting time: 1 action
  • range: 30ft
  • Components: V,S,M (a shard of desert glass)
  • duration: 1 round

You create a shimmering facsimile of a sun at a point within range, which sheds bright light in a 5ft radius and dim light for an additional 10ft. Creatures within 5ft when the spell is cast, or a creature which ends it's turn within 5ft, must make an INT save against your spell save DC. On a fail, the creature is blinded for the duration as it is compelled to stare directly into the unnatural light.
